The Bapco "Find a driver" Challenge
If you've ever watched Grand Prix racing on the television, played it as a computer game, or witnessed it live at the Bahrain International Circuit, you're almost certain to have wondered if you've got what it takes to become a top Formula 1 driver.
Well now your dreams can become a reality, because we're looking for someone to represent Bahrain in the glamorous, high-tech world of international motor sport – and that someone could be you!
Race for Bahrain
Bahrain International Circuit and BAPCO have come together to create the Race For Bahrain, a competition to find the country's top motor racing prospect, and then to develop their skills using the unrivalled facilities of Bahrain’s exceptional racetrack. Thanks to a specially formulated, intensive training programme, the winner will be tutored in all aspects of the sport, and will compete in high profile events – with the possibility of one day joining a Formula 1 team.
Here is the chance of a lifetime to prove yourself in the most exciting, dynamic, and challenging sport on earth, to gain invaluable help and advice from some of the most experienced names in the field of motor racing today, and to race in the new BAPCO Caterham G7 Championship.
Before you fill in the form, you should be aware that there's a lot more to becoming a racing driver than having quick reactions and being able to drive fast. These days intelligence, commitment, physical fitness, teamwork and communication skills are just as important. However, if you think you have the talent, the spirit, the personality, and the determination that will see you on pole position at Monaco, Monza, and in front of your home crowd at the Bahrain International Circuit, then this is an opportunity you cannot afford to miss.
Eligibility
The Race for Bahrain competition is open to all men and women, aged between 18 and 26, who hold a current driving licence and a Bahrain passport.
How the competition will work:
Those applicants who succeed in convincing the judges of their suitability by correctly filling in the enclosed questionnaire, will embark on a challenging programme of tests devised by a team of motor sport experts. Contestants will be tested both physically and mentally – not only will fitness and driving skills be assessed, but overall intelligence, attitude, and personality, as well.
The programme will run from April 2005 to July 2005, and comprises four separate stages:
Stage 1
Complete the attached questionnaire and return it to the address provided. This will give our team of experts their first insight into you as a person, and your suitability as a potential top racing driver. Should you be selected, over 5,000 entries are anticipated, you will be one of up to 300 candidates to proceed to Stage 2.
Stage 2
Having passed the test on the questionnaire, you will be invited to the Bahrain International Circuit for further assessment. Here you will undergo general fitness and reaction tests, along with teamwork exercises and off-track driving exercises. This will enable us to identify the top 100 prospects.
Stage 3
Further written tests and then on the track! As one of the top 100 candidates, you will be given the opportunity to demonstrate your driving skills on the Bahrain International Formula 1(TM) Circuit in one of our fleet of Caterham G7 Championship racing cars. An expert instructor will evaluate your on-track abilities, as well as your mental approach to performance driving. Following this a final shortlist of 10 contestants will be announced.
Stage 4
If you get to this stage you should be proud of yourself!
You will now be required to undergo further on-track driving tests, and face a series of interviews. This will result in the selection of the top three drivers, all of whom will win a season's racing in a fully-funded and race-prepared Caterham Gulf 7 competition car for the Middle East Caterham Car Championship.
In addition to this, the overall winner will receive a special programme of tuition, support, advice and guidance – everything needed to challenge for a place at the highest level of international motor sport. Naturally, this person will also benefit from a considerable amount of publicity and kudos in motor sport circles for winning such a prestigious and high-profile competition.
